How to Get Followers on Twitter!

We all know the impact Twitter has become across the world. Getting followers on Twitter has become a mainstay in business and marketing.  However gathering people to follow you may be somewhat difficult or daunting to some people.  My buddy (@hoffco) who is new to Twitter asked me to show him the ropes about Twitter and how he can get followers – I gladly obliged him.  I am no marketing or Twitter genius at all by I do know a thing or two about successful campaigns and messaging boards – and Twitter is no different.

Front Page Icon
First off, you should have a website about your company and place a Twitter icon of some sort on the front page where it is most visible and easily accessible – usually next to the login section of your website if possible.  This will give your traffic a sense of community where they can easily reach you for direct messages and see what’s new at your company.

Don’t Tweet Spam
One thing to keep in mind and its one of the most important is that you should not tweet about products all the time.  That gets extremely boring and you’ll lose followers fast.  What you want to do is tweet about current things that’s going on the web that people want to read about your opinion on subjects that matter most.  Doing this will give your followers a sense of a real person behind the company.  What I like to do is take 15 minutes to read what’s hot, new, and searched subjects on Yahoo! and then Tweet them on a day-by-day basis on how I feel about it.

Return The Favor!
Another way of getting followers is very simple, follow others and they’ll most likely return the favor.  So that means that whatever they tweet on their account will pop up on your home page as well – and vice versa.  This will allow you to get a variety of different subjects shown on your homepage for your reading pleasure and you can tweet about what matters to you most and it will appear on their account.

Just Ask!
Go ahead and ask people if they can mention you on their Twitter account!  It never hurts to ask and 98% of the time they do it! Just be sure to return the favor when they do.  By getting people to do this allows their 1000’s of followers to read what they got to say about you and quite possibly generate more followers for you.

Most Searched Topics
Keep an eye on the most searched about topics on Twitter on a daily basis.  This will give you an insight on what ‘active’ people are doing right now on Twitter and you can capitalize on those searches by tweeting the search word and then tweet something about your company or service, or your opinion.  For example, I’ve noticed that Jay-Z has been the most searched about topic for a couple of weeks now on Twitter, so what I did is create a tweet that says the following:

“Jay-Z, Blue Print III, Blue Print 3, GET FREE ONLINE AUCTIONS AT DUNDILLY.COM using Voucher Code f2b5960e46a6

This will allow you to post your company’s subject in front of those people searching for Jay-Z, Blue Print III, or Blue Print 3.  Whether they click on your name to go back to  your Twitter account is not what we wanted – the goal was to put your company in CAPS with a short precise message in front of the readers eyes.  So even if you get no click through using this method, the end result is still worth it and that’s getting your company in front of millions instantly!

One Line Bio
Just pick a name any name will do! Getting people to follow you is as easy as clicking on “Find People” and then choosing a name like David.  And all you do is follow everyone on that list that has the name David.  This method works only IF you have your ‘one line bio’ properly written. Let’s take a look at my one line bio for example – it reads, “Check out Dundilly.com and sell your products on Dundilly for free! It’s a Done Deal! DUNDILLY.COM VISIT US! Email us at DUNDILLY@YAHOO.comI used every single character allowance to its fullest potential by stating

  1. Company Name: (Dundilly.com)
  2. What is the company about: (sell  your products)
  3. What the company offers: (free)
  4. Company easy to remember tag line: (It’s a Done Deal!)
  5. Company URL: (DUNDILLY.COM
  6. Call to Action: (VISIT US!)
  7. Company Email Address: (DUNDILLY@YAHOO.com)

That is a lot of information to get to someone instantly by following them.  If by chance they decide not to follow  you, then no worries, you got your message to them by displaying  your one line bio on their followers page.
